The Book of Psalms is a portion of the Bible that offers necessary encouragement and support in traversing the many aspects of the Christian life this side of glory. It is a book of worship that teaches about who God is, His glory, holiness, greatness, power, wonder, goodness, faithfulness, mercy, and love. God is revealed as a God who is always present with His people who promise to deliver and vindicate them at exactly the right time. In Psalms 56:8, we are told He keeps the believer's tears in a bottle. Again and again, the Psalms remind us of God's constant care and love for His own. The Psalms reveal to us what we are to believe about God and though this God is full of wonder and is high and lifted up. We can come to Him just as we are, in any circumstance, and any spiritual and emotional state. He invites us to meet with Him in worship, to experience His acceptance and strength. The Psalms also reveal to us the coming Messiah. Psalm 2 or Psalm 22 clearly shows the messianic promises revealed in the New Testament. While we can sometimes overlook the Psalms, they do teach us to pray and to expect that God will answer our prayers.
