The Gospel of Mark

Mark is a short book, written by John Mark (known as Mark) who was a cousin of Barnabas (Colossians 4:10) and traveled with Paul and Barnabas on a missionary journey (Acts 15). Mark was with Paul in prison (Col. 4:10) and with Peter in Rome (I Peter 5:13), where the book was likely written. It seems that the intended audience was a primarily Gentile Roman audience. The book moves quickly from one scene to the next, usually using the word “immediately”. Mark presents Jesus as the divine Son of God who was the suffering servant and calls all Christians to follow his path and to expect suffering as a normal part of their Christian life.
